Every 2 minutes, another American is sexually assaulted and nearly half of those affected are under the age of 18. Lawanda Watson was just nine years old when her father came into her room one evening, pulled her covers back, and raped her.
In 2012, her husband, Stellar® nominated Christian rapper Jason “Json” Watson recorded a single, “Secrets,” telling Lawanda’s heartbreaking story, unknowingly planting a seed that would grow into a national movement.
Inspired by Jason's forthcoming “Secrets” video, releasing January 5, 2015, EEW (Empowering Everyday Women) Online Magazine, in partnership with RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), has launched the “No More Secrets” Campaign.
Spearheaded by award-winning EEW President, Dianna Hobbs, the purpose of the “No More Secrets” effort is to bring awareness to the commonness of sexual violence, provide helpful resources through RAINN.org, and give survivors a safe means to break their silence.
“Sexual assault is more common than we like to acknowledge. It is one of the least reported crimes to law enforcement,” said Jen Marsh, VP of Victim’s Services for RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization.
Watch the story of courageous Christian couple Jason and Lawanda, who have become beacons of hope to others who have experienced the devastation sexual violence causes.
